The 50th National Skills Competition Flag Relay Kicks off at Taoyuan-Hsinchu-Miaoli Regional Branch of the Workforce Development Agency!

The Ministry of Labor exceptionally scheduled the opening of the flag relay on July 15, 2020 at Amazing Hall Taoyuan to celebrate the grand opening of the 50th National Skills Competition with honorable guests, former national contestants, and prospective participants.

Since 1970, the Ministry of Labor has been holding the annual national skills competitions for young adults to perform their results of vocational training and to gain public acknowledgement by providing them with a professional stage for competitions. Excellent competitors with outstanding performance will be selected to represent Taiwan as national contestants and participate in WorldSkills Competitions. This year, the 50th National Skills Competition is held at Nangang International Exhibition Center Hall 2 in Taipei with international standards of quality from September 17th to 21st to celebrate the half-century birthday of national skills competitions and the 50-year milestone of being a member of WSI (WorldSkills International). The 50th National Skills Competition consists of 52 vocational categories for the adolescent group (age 21 and younger) and 13 vocational categories for the youth group (age 13-15), bringing the total number of participants to nearly 1,000. These participants are not only competing for national championship, but they are also striving for the opportunity to represent Taiwan to participate in the 46th WorldSkills Competition, which will be held in Shanghai, China in September of next year, along with competitors from over 60 countries and regions.

Since participants come from all over the country, the Ministry of Labor especially planned the flag relay for the purpose of sharing the glory of participants and spreading the passion of vocational education with all people. The flag will be relayed across cities and counties by the five branches of the Workforce Development Agency of the Ministry of Labor. On September 17, 2020, the flag will be brought to the opening ceremony of the 50th National Skills Competition. The opening ceremony of the flag relay, which invited schools, prospective participants, and former national contestants to join, was held in Taoyuan City. City governments and county governments of the local Taoyuan-Hsinchu-Miaoli Region also attended the celebration.

The Minister of the Ministry of Labor Hsu Ming-chun attended the event and passed the flag to the Deputy Mayor of Taoyuan City Government Kao An-pang, the representative of Hsinchu County Government, the representative of Hsinchu City Government, and the representative of Miaoli County Government respectively to begin the opening ceremony, which symbolized the skills being passed down from the past. The representative students of the prospective participants took up the gauntlet, which symbolized the challenge being accepted to attend the 50th National Skills Competition held at Nangang International Exhibition Center in September. The Minister Hsu Ming-chun stated in her speech that the Ministry of Labor has been relentlessly assisting young adults in vocational training as well as holding the national skills competition every year for the past fifty years. Last year, the Minister personally led the national team to Kazan, Russia during the 45th WorldSkills Competition and gloriously won the 3rd place in the world, perfectly demonstrating the skills and strengths of Taiwan to the globe. The Minister also encouraged participants to show their best efforts “with absolute focus and determination” to become the next national contestants and represent Taiwan in next year’s WorldSkills Competition against competitors from all over the world.

The 50th National Skills Competition Flag Arrives in Taichung and Celebrates the Spirit of Vocational Skills with Locals and Participants!

This year, the Ministry of Labor celebrates the 50th National Skills Competition and the 50-year milestone of being a member of WSI (WorldSkills International) at Nangang International Exhibition Center Hall 2 in Taipei from September 17th to 21st. In addition to the celebration, a flag relay across the country was planned. Today, the flag arrived in Mid Taiwan. The Vice Minister of the Ministry of Labor Lin San-quei, the Director General of the Workforce Development Agency Shih Chen-yang, the representatives of local governments, principals of vocational schools, former national contestants, and prospective participants attended the ceremony at 2:50 PM (250 is pronounced as ai wulin in Mandarin, a metaphor for the event being a battlefield for participants) and celebrated the spirit of vocational skills altogether.

As Vice Minister of Ministry of Labor Lin San-quei pointed out in his speech, the 50th National Skills Competition was exceptionally planned with international standards of quality for participants to experience international competitions and to strive for the opportunity to become the next national contestants and represent Taiwan in future international competitions. The Vice Minister stated that the purpose of the large-scale event this year is to show our national success and hard work to the globe and to encourage young people to be involved in vocational education. The 50th National Skills Competition consists of 65 vocational categories, including the 52 categories for the adolescent group, which comprises 833 participants, and the 13 categories for the youth group, which comprises 115 participants, bringing the total number of participants to 945. It is noteworthy that one-fourth of the participants come from Mid Taiwan as a result of the promotion of skills and the collaboration between all schools and governments.

To welcome the prospective participants from all over the country and to spread the passion for vocational education, the Ministry of Labor exceptionally planned the flag relay, which began in Taoyuan City on July 15, 2020. Today, the flag arrived in Taichung City, which was the second stop of the relay. Special guests and participants gathered to join the grand ceremony, which was led by the central and local governments, promoted by the Ministry of Labor and education, and cheered by former national contestants.

Today, the flag was carried to the ceremony by Cheng Tzu-yang, the former bronze medalist of polymechanics and automation in the 45th WorldSkills Competition. It was then passed from the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Labor Lin San-quei to the Deputy Mayor of Taichung City Government Huang Kuo-jung, the representative of Changhwa County Government Wu Lan-mei, and representative of Nantou County Government respectively. As the ceremony ended, the waving flag symbolized the collaboration between the central and local governments as well as their determination to bring vocational education to people.

It was noteworthy that the three schools with the most prospective participants in Mid Taiwan—Taichung Municipal Taichung Industrial High school, The Affiliated Industrial Vocational High School of National Changhua University of Education, and National Caotun Commercial & Industrial Vocational Senior High School—represented their fellow participants and picked up the gauntlet to attend the competitions for championships at Nangang International Exhibition Center in September. The principals also attended the event and cheered for their students.

The Ministry of Labor exceptionally planned the 50th National Skills Competition at Nangang International Exhibition Center in Taipei and a flag relay across the country in celebration for its 50th annual event and for the half-century milestone of being a member of WSI (WorldSkills International). Today, the flag arrived in Tainan. The Minister of the Ministry of Labor Hsu Ming-chun, the Director General of the Workforce Development Agency Shih Chen-yang, and the representatives of Yunlin/Chiayi/Tainan city and county governments, the principals of schools, former national contestant, and prospective participants gathered at the event to celebrate the opening of the 50th National Skills Competition at 2:50 (250 is pronounced as ai wulin in Mandarin, a metaphor for the event being a battlefield for participants).

As the Minister Hsu Ming-chun pointed out in her speech, the Yunlin/Chiayi/Tainan Region has been taking the lead in nurturing the most national contestants over the past years. Not only did the Minister urge the regional governments to promote vocational education, but she also encouraged young people to take up the challenge of becoming the next gold medalists. As she mentioned, equipping young adults with vocational skills would as a result give rise to local industrial development and create unlimited opportunities.

To welcome the prospective participants from all over the country and to spread the passion for vocational education, the Ministry of Labor exceptionally planned the flag relay, which began with its first stop in Taoyuan City on July 15 and its second stop in Taichung City on July 22. Today, the flag arrived in Tainan City, which was the third stop of the relay. Honorable guests from different fields across the nation gathered to witness the ceremony, a success led by the central and local governments, promoted by the Ministry of Labor and education, and cheered by former national contestants.

Today, Hung Yu-hsiang, the former bronze medalist of patisserie and confectionery in the 45th WorldSkills Competition, carried the flag to the ceremony, while Cheng Tzu-yang, the former bronze medalist of polymechanics and automation in the 45th WorldSkills Competition, threw down the gauntlet, which was taken up by the representative participants of the Yunlin/Chiayi/Tainan Region. This symbolized the challenge being accepted by the regional participants to attend the 50th National Skills Competition at Nangang International Exhibition Center in September, and it also represented the spirit and skills being passed from the former national contestants to the prospective participants. The Minister of the Ministry of Labor Hsu Ming-chun then passed the flag to the Mayor of Tainan City Government Huang Wei-che, the representative of Yunlin County Government Hsu Mu-shan, the representative of Chiayi County Government Hsiao Ying-cheng, and the representative of Chiayi City Government Lin Chia-wei respectively. The waving flag represented the collaboration between the local and central governments in bringing the value and glory of skills to all parts of Taiwan.

The 50th National Skills Competition Flag Arrives in Pingtung and Celebrates the Spirit of Vocational Skills with Locals and Participants!

In celebration of the 50-year birthday for the national skills competition as well as the half-century milestone Taiwan has achieved for being a member WSI (WorldSkills International), the Ministry of Labor decided to hold the grand event of the 50th National Skills Competition at Nangang International Exhibition Center Hall 2 in Taipei and a flag relay across Taiwan. Today, the flag reached Southern Taiwan. The Vice Minister of the Ministry of Labor Lin San-quei, the Director General of the Workforce Development Agency Shih Chen-yang, and the representatives of local county and city governments attended the event along with the principals of schools and prospective participants to celebrate the upcoming 50th National Skills Competition altogether.

As Vice Minister of Ministry of Labor Lin San-quei stated, the 50th National Skills Competition was exceptionally planned with international standards of quality in order to send two messages to the public and the globe: Taiwan has achieved great success in vocational education, for we value the importance of vocational training, and we encourage young people to be involved in vocational education by laying the groundwork of skills. The 50th National Skills Competition consists of 65 vocational categories, including the 52 categories for the adolescent group, which comprises 833 participants, and the 13 categories for the youth group, which comprises 115 participants, bringing the total number of participants to 945. As a result of the collaboration between all schools and governments and the promotion of skills in Southern Taiwan, 122 participants are from Kaohsiung City, and 19 vocational categories from Pingtung County have signed up for the competitions.

To welcome the prospective participants from across the country and to spread the passion for vocational education, the Ministry of Labor exceptionally planned the flag relay, which began with its first stop in Taoyuan City on July 15, its second stop in Taichung City on July 22, and its third stop in Tainan City on July 31. Today, the flag arrived in Pingtung, which was the fourth stop of the relay. Special guests from different fields across the country attended the ceremony, which represented a great success in vocational education led by the central and local governments, promoted by the Ministry of Labor and education, and cheered by former national contestants.

Today, the flag was carried by Lin Ching-tung, a former national contestant of information network cabling in the 45th WorldSkills Competition. The representative students of prospective participants from Kaohsiung, Pingtung, Penghu, and Taitung picked up the gauntlet, which symbolized the challenge being accepted by the prospective students to attend the 50th National Skills Competition held at Nangang International Exhibition Center in September. It also represented the skills and cheering spirit being passed down from the former national contestant to the prospective participants. The flag was passed from the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Labor Lin San-quei to the Director of the Labor and Youth Development Department of Pingtung County Government Huang Ting-lun, the Interim Director of the Labor Affairs Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government Chen Shih-wei, and other representatives respectively. The waving flag implied that the central government and local governments together were determined to spread the value and glory of skills across Taiwan.
